Owing to adverse effects of climate change, water scarcity has become the latest curse for many farmers in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (Asal). With depressed rains in recent years, rain-fed agriculture has become highly unreliable as crops dry up before maturity due to erratic rains.
Through BMZ fund Change Business Kenya and Village Economic Empowerment partnered and started a drip drop irrigation project that targeted 50 child sponsored Manyatta.
This project has ensure that 50 child sponsored families get a bucket farming kit which consist of irrigation pipes, a tank and a net to that is use to protect the crops from the sun. This will enabled them to start a kitchen garden where they have planted vegetables that will supplement their dietary needs and also enable them to earn a living through seling the vegetable to other community members thus enable them pay school fees and provide other needs.
