Irrigation Systems

Crop cultivation in the arid and semiarid ecosystems is mainly constrained by inadequate or unreliable rainfall. Small scale irrigation  systems in such areas are necessary to supplement the insufficient rainfall to meet  crop water requirement (ET Crop).

Perennial drought and subsequent food shortage due to unreliable rainfall is one of the biggest challenge in most communities particularly in Kajiado county. Due to this challenge, Change Business Kenya through donor partnership we sank a borehole, constructs dams sand dams to provide water for irrigation.

According to the  National Water Master Plan (NWMP, 2030. The NWMP recognizes that Kenya has not fully developed its irrigation potential estimated at 1.34 million hectares. This is based on surface and underground water, including water harvesting and storage. CBK envisions to build infrastructure and equip human resource capacity for sustainable operations management whilst creating  business oriented  agricultural concepts that empower farming communities. We have introduced green house and a drip drop bucket farming concept to 50 Manyatta as in ilbisil, this is to ensure food security within the larger population in ilbisil community, the surplus can be sold to the local market and  exported.
